Take a seat! December 17, 2007

How hard is it to find a chair or something to sit on in the library? Usually they are taken up by people who spend all day reading the papers and stuff. The Dutch designer Jelte van Geest found an amazing solution for it. You get your own seat the moment you enter the library. And it stays with you the entire time. Sounds weird? Click the video below to see it in action!

I was searching for this kind of a blog for months now. Actually lost the hope of finding one, but here i am 🙂 Thanks for the great articles! Looking forward for a little read after dinner 🙂

Those sound so cool! There’s no way they’ll be used though. First time someone trips over one they’ll sue.

When I first saw it I thought it looked cool. But it is kind of creepy to have that seat following you around. I guess this would only work for adults. Somone made a good comment about how if someone trips over it, they will sue.

This project has been designed as a concept, a new way of interacting with products of daily use. At this moment, it doesn´t exist at any library. I´m working on the possiblities to make this project a reality.

I will inform you when there are new developments. Check out my website http://www.jeltevangeest.nl !

Good luck, Jelte, but libraries these days can barely afford books and staff and heat and air conditioning and plumbing repairs. This would be way far down on their list of what to spend money on.
