Gadgets for book lovers

Request to all book bloggers! July 12, 2007

Wouldn’t it be great to explore the passion that binds us all? To view how each and every one of us gives shape to our hobby? To experience how we pay tribute to our well loved collections? To learn how much we are really alike?

As you must have picked up on, I am quite excited about my (latest) project. Collecting photo’s of home libraries. I would like to build an extensive ‘library’ of home libraries, owned by people all over the globe. It’s not just about the photos of the libraries, though. For me, there is a deeper layer behind all of this.

For me, it is something beyond books and libraries. It’s all about love and passion and how it is important in our lives and how the basic feeling is the same for everybody. No matter who you are, where you are and what you are passionate about. I think seeing photographs of peoples passion, in this case their libraries, could be quite inspirational. I hope it also inspires people to read and see beyond the book as an object. Yes, I’m quite an idealist.

I can only pull this off with your help. I think it could turn out into something really fantastic. If you have a book blog, could you please mention my quest? If you like, you can put up a small banner. You will find three variations below, so you can choose.

The only thing you have to do is right-click and save it and upload it to our website or blog. You can then refer it to the page I made by entering this code into your blog or website: <a href=””><img src=”http://www.the place where you stored the banner”></a>

Thank you so much in advance!

227 x 99 pixels in the Kimbooktu colors, almost the same as the banners in the side bar.

180 x 180 pixels in a fun appropriate way. Easy to put in your side bar or anywhere else.

468 x 60 pixels, a little bit more modern.

I will certainly participate when the rest of my bookshelves go up 🙂 I just built (well, my boyfriend and I) the first for the apartment two weeks ago. Splendid idea! I’ll put the link on my site as well.

  2. Hello!

I am looking for an easy way to create a catalog of a friend home library which is making the whole house mostly around cook books and natural medicine books. My goal is to use an easy system to build the library database and make it browsable and searchable over a website such as a wordpress blog. I had an eye on the web librerian WordPress plugin but this one seems complicated in the way that it is more a library loaning management system to track books you loan but other features such as adding simply pictures to a record for cover page and samples sometimes doesn’t seems to be an option. I know there are windows freeware apps that does this job but it wouldn’t be available live on WordPress. I am actually thinking of building a new wordpress blog where its contents like post and categories will only be dedicated to books. Like a blog inside a blog.
Did you encounter any project like that yet?
It would be sad to choose the wrong system, begin to fill it and then having to start over cause it is not what you excepted.
