Gadgets for book lovers

Reminder: contest February 23, 2008

Filed under: About the website — kimbooktu @ 4:23 am

As you may have read (here), I am hosting a creative contest which will end March 1. (I have changed the grand prize a little bit.) The winner gets a feature article on this blog. Kimbooktu will conduct an interview with the artist and state their website and contact information in the article. We will also place a banner for the website of the artist on Kimbooktu. Last but not least, I will have the artwork printed and hung it in my library. I will make a photo to prove it.

Since I know there are a lot of creative people reading this blog, I came up with a suitable contest. I would like you to make some artwork for my library. You have no idea how much you, my readers, mean to me. Since most of you are far away, it would be fantastic to have your spirit in my new library.

Since your art will be hung in our library it has to be bookish and printable. Anything goes, as long as you created it. You can take a beautiful photograph of a library. You can draw a reading person. You can make an abstract painting of a book. You can write a poem. Let your love for books and reading run free!

You can click here to learn more and see the entries. You can send your entries here.

The prizes of this contest are sponsored by:

Update: I have extended the deadline to May 1.

Flexible Shelving February 22, 2008

Filed under: Furniture — kimbooktu @ 10:03 pm

Here is another shelving idea for your books. I post a lot of those lately, I just noticed. Must be because we are getting the keys to our new house in a little bit over a month. Very exiting.

Anyway, this is one of the most novel ways to shelve books I have seen in a while. The Elastico Shelf. All it takes is this giant rubber band and two iron pegs. Simplicity at its best, created by designer Arianna Vivenzio

I could not find a store where it is sold, or how much it costs. If you know, please post it in the comments!

Filed under: Bookish news — kimbooktu @ 11:08 pm

Remember that cute little bookstore I visited when I was in Las Vegas? (If not, click here.) This haven of peace in the city of sin, called The Reading Room, is no longer. It was a huge surprise and shock to me - and not only me. I cannot believe they closed down this fantastic store! Click here to read the article that explains all.

Thanks to Susan for the update.

Book darts February 2, 2008

Filed under: Handy — kimbooktu @ 4:12 am

I always try to finish a chapter before I lay down a book. If you are unable to do this, this might be a nice gadget for you. The gadget of today is called Book Darts. These page holders might also come in handy when you want to mark a certain passage or quote in a book. Or when you study and need to remind yourself of important passages in your text book. Learn more about Book Darts here.
