Sorry to inform you all, you have to do without me next week! The hubby and I are going on a short honeymoon.  But do not worry, we’ll only be away for a week! That gives you time to browse trough the archives and read the stuff you have missed. Have fun!

Book Lounge Insiders’ Blog June 20, 2007

Filed under: Bookish news — Kim @ 7:48 pm

Usually, I do not post on lit blogs. First, because there are so many good reading and literature blogs out there. I could have an entire blog that writes about bookish blogs! I already have an extensive blogroll filled with good bookish websites. Next, because this website is not really about that.

But sometimes a good blog or website about books attracts my attention. Sometimes because one certain article and sometimes because the entire blog is something different. I knew of the existence of BookLounge. This is the website of the Canadian part of publisher Random House. They now have an Insiders’ Blog. The great thing about this blog is that everybody writes on it. From managers to authors (Mark Haddon, writes there too!). It could become a great blog to learn about publishing books. And not only for Canadian residents.

You can click here to go to the BookLounge website, and here to go directly to the Insiders’ Blog.

PS. Click here to learn more about the great book by Mark Haddon seen above. It’s one of my favorites.

Free books June 20, 2007

Recently, I found this blog with an interesting post on it. “Top 10 places to get free books”. Well, that certainly attracted my attention! The author links mostly to online resources, but it is worth reading. Click here for part one of the article and here for part two. Or click here to go to the bloggers “Ultimate guide to free books”.

It is time to reveal the winners! First, I would like to thank all the people who took the time and effort to think of something for my contest. I really appreciate it! For three of the sixteen contestants it has been worth it, because they won a box filled with reading gadgets!

Shelf of books June 14, 2007

Filed under: Art, Furniture — Kim @ 10:50 pm

I usually try to avoid posting two products of the same sort. But then I found this. It is, just like the previous post, a bookshelf. But what a bookshelf it is. It is so simple, that I wonder: why didn’t I think of that!

Anyway, the designer Werner Aisslinger did. And the results are quite spectacular. What you can do with a little thing shaped as a plus. You actually can create bookshelves out of your books! An amazing idea. You can go to the website of the designer here.

Corner bookshelf June 14, 2007

Filed under: Furniture — Kim @ 10:22 pm

This bookshelf is quite simple, but innovative in its own right. If you have the same problem as I have – not enough space for bookshelves – this might be something to consider. This bookcase is designed to mount to a corner of a wall. My problem is so severe though, I do not have any corners available anymore to put it. Stacking the books seems to be my only option. After that? Moving. If you are not in that much trouble, you can learn more about the bookshelf here.

Dexter’s library June 13, 2007

Filed under: Bookish You Tube, Humour — Kim @ 2:19 am

Sorry. I am not a big fan of the cartoon Dexter. Even though I sometimes call out: “Get the hell out of my laboratory!” at work. I am just not a big fan of cartoons. The Dexter cartoon is great in one liners, though. Apparently there was an episode about Dexter who worked in a library. Quite funny, I have to say…

Home library System… June 12, 2007

Filed under: Books all sorts, Handy — Kim @ 7:20 pm

This is the title of the book about books this time. It has the very lengthy undertitle: “The Complete System for Organizing, Locating, Referencing, and Maintaining Your Book Collection”. The book is written by Katie Coblentz, she is a special collection cataloguer at the NY Public Library. She shares her knowledge as a librarian with the readers, so they learn how to organize their home libraries efficiently.

The book is ring bound and looks very pretty. It is actually more a folder then a book. It also comes with a CD that has software on it to help managing a book collection. It looks very professional and similarly interesting. It seems to be the perfect gift for a librarian, or someone with a home library. It is something different then the other books about how-to-manage-your-home-library. You can learn more about it here.

Special bookish jewelry June 7, 2007

Filed under: Art, Jewelry — Kim @ 11:35 pm

A regular reader, Jane Fan, wrote about the following website in the comments of the bookish china. Since I do not want it to escape you attention, I decided to write this post about it. The website has some fantastic bookish jewelry on it. The necklaces are made from different materials like bottle caps, domino stones and optical lenses. The artist, Tiffini Elektra, gives them beautiful images. Some of them are bookish.

She also makes other kinds of jewelry like rings and earrings. I would love to wear some of her pieces. Especially the bookish ones, of course. You can see her artwork here.
