Book gift May 31, 2007

Filed under: Gifts — kimbooktu @ 3:00 pm

If you would like to present a bibliophile with a gift, which is not a book, this might be an idea. Make the gift look like a book! BookWear is a company that sells products and wraps them in ‘a cover’. They sell anything from puzzles to t-shirts. If I understand correctly it is even possible to design a cover of your own. This is probably only for companies. The idea is good, though. Click here to find out more.

Funny library films May 27, 2007

Filed under: Bookish You Tube, Humour — kimbooktu @ 10:52 pm

I found these films on You Tube last week, but did not have the time to post them. The first one is of Mr. Bean who goes to the library. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. It is about nine minutes long and pretty predictable. Every time you think: “No, he is not really going to…” And then he does. And even worse then you thought. Hilarious!

This next film is equally funny. Even though I am almost thirty, I find Sesame Street fantastic. This clip of three minutes is about Cookie Monster who visits a library. The ending of it almost literally made me roll on the floor and laugh out loud.

Kimbooktu contest: my idea May 22, 2007

Filed under: About the website — kimbooktu @ 10:57 pm

I have promised you to make something that could be entered in my contest. As an example. Hopefully, this way you will be inspired to get artsy craftsy yourself. As you know, the contest will end the first of June. There are only five contestants up till now, which is a bit on the poor side.

As I wrote in an earlier post, I think you find the contest more difficult then it really is. That is why I got busy - like I am not busy enough with my wedding - to make something. It goes without saying that I will not be eligible for prices, haha. So here is my bookish product/invention:

Name contestant: Kim
Country: The Netherlands
Date of entry: May 22. 2007
Name product: Library door hanger
Product description: A door hanger made from a ring of Styrofoam, covered with scrapes of pages from an old unwanted book. With this, you can let everybody know that they are entering your home library. A lot of fun to make and nice to look at.

Wacky bible May 22, 2007

Filed under: Books all sorts, Humour — kimbooktu @ 3:00 pm

This website I found is so wacky, I could not keep it from you. And it still about a book, so thought I should go ahead and post about it. The website is called “The Brick Testament”. The creator, Brendan Powell Smith, must have some time on his hands. (He calls himself ‘reverend’, but I wonder if he really is one.) He played out the bible with Lego! I have to say, it looks really good. Click here to go to the website.

Smith also turned his Lego bible into books, for instance The story of Christmas and the Ten Commandments. You can find out about the books and search inside them here.

8 random things about me May 22, 2007

Filed under: Meme — kimbooktu @ 2:05 pm

Nick from the blog Literary Compass has tagged me with “Eight random things about me”. So here we go.

1. I do not watch much television series, but I am addicted to NCIS.

2. My second biggest dream is translating a novel from English into Dutch.

3. During the winter I sleep with my socks on.

4. Next to books, I collect boxes and geisha memorabilia.

5. I think The Davinci Code is a highly overrated book.

6. My favorite color is pink.

7. The first poem I learned by heart was “Oh captain, my captain” by Walt Whitman (see photo), after seeing the film “Dead poets society”.

8. I worked at The British Museum when I lived in London for six months in 2004.

Now it is my time to tag. I tag these eight bloggers, click on the title of the blog to take a look: Patricia from Booklust, Chris from book-a-rama, Amy from Books, Words, and Writing, Lore from Literary Craving, Shaun from The Book Inscriptions Project, Molly from Restless Reader, Clary from The Book’s Den and Rachel from The Laminal Librarian. They have to go by these rules.

And that you all send me links and are so exited about my wedding. You guys are fantastic!

Nancy Drew movie May 16, 2007

Filed under: Bookish You Tube, Bookish news, Books all sorts, Games — kimbooktu @ 10:27 pm

I just read a post on Litminds about a film that is made about Nancy Drew. (Click here for the Wikipedia article on this character.) The film can be seen as from June 15. Nancy Drew was created by Carolyn Keene. This name is actually a pseudonym. The books were in fact written by a fast number of writers. (Click here for a Wikipedia article on Carolyn Keene.)

The Internet Movie Database has information about the movie, to be found here. I have seen the trailer and it seems to be a film made for 15 year olds. Too bad. But I will watch it anyway, to make sure. You can view the trailer by clicking on the start button.

There is also an official website about the film. You can find it here. If you like bookish films, take a look at this post. Books and games featuring this detective can be found here. All of the books written by “Carolyn Keene” can be found here. I wonder what the Nancy Drew fans have to say about this film…

Kimbooktu’s wedding May 16, 2007

Filed under: About the website — kimbooktu @ 9:23 pm

Some of you know it already. Others might have noticed a drop in the amounts of posts. I apologise to my regular readers. However there is an explanation for my ‘laziness’. I am getting married next week. I am so wrapped up in planning the last details, that I have let this blog slip for a bit. But do not worry! After my wedding I will post more often!

I could post a couple of pictures of my big day later on. I will make a temporary page for this, so it does not interfere with the bookish posts. Let me know if you are interested.

Slightly Chipped… May 16, 2007

Filed under: Books about Books — kimbooktu @ 8:07 pm

…Footnotes on Booklore. This is the second book of Nancy and Lawrence Goldstone. Their previous book is called “Used and Rare”. I have written about it before, you can find the post here. This book is again about their passion for books. Again they write about the search for everything that is bookish, but more in depth this time. You can learn more about the book here, and search inside.
