Floating books December 31, 2006

Filed under: Furniture, Handy — kimbooktu @ 3:15 pm

I am a sucker for interior design. Especially when it comes to my library. Therefore I quite like the Conceal Bookshelf. You mount this steel ‘thing’ on the wall and stack your books on it. It gives the illusion that your books are floating. That proves to be a nice feature! The shelf holds up to 15 lbs.

This Book Clock would not be out of tone in your library! You can get it in black or in a piece in different colours. The clock consists of three ‘hard cover books’. The hours are printed on the books as if it were the titles. Find out more about them here.

Keep track of your reading December 31, 2006

Filed under: Books all sorts, Handy — kimbooktu @ 3:02 pm

In this handy booklet you can write down all your reading notes. In the Book Lover’s Diary (US) (EU click here) you can register what books you like to read, what you have read and thought about it, a wish list and so forth. The book has separate sections to write all of this down. It also contains a section to write down the books you have loaned out.

But there is also a book that is only for registering loaned out books. It is called the Book Lover’s Borrow Book (US) (EU click here)This helps you keep track of your books. I won’t need this one, because I never lend out books anymore. I always got them back with cracked backs or otherwise damaged. So I stopped lending books altogether.

Librarian action figure December 31, 2006

Filed under: Humour, Miscellaneous — kimbooktu @ 2:59 pm

It’s wacky! It’s weird. And therefore I love it! An actual action figure of a librarian. The model is based on a real live person. Since I am Dutch, I have never heard of her. You might! Nancy Pearl is the woman who modelled for the doll. She travels the United Stated to speak about her love for books. You can read the story about it here.

Nancy comes in a ‘normal’ and a ‘deluxe’ version. The normal version comes with the doll dressed in a blue suit (5 inches tall, 12,7 cm) and some books. The books include “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, “More Book Lust”, and “The Darwin Awards”. When you pull her arm down and press the button on her back she says: “Shhh!”.

The deluxe version also comes with the doll, this time in a red suit, and books. But it also includes a book cart on which you can place the books. There is also a miniature computer included, so she can reference your search. The company also has action figures of famous writers like Dickens and Shakespeare.

Personalise a book tote December 30, 2006

Filed under: Clothing, Gifts — kimbooktu @ 8:44 pm

Okay, they are for kids, but who cares? On this website you can order a book tote and design it to your own wishes. You can choose boy or girl, the hair colour, the hair type and the skin colour. To finish it of you can give a name to be put on the bag and the title of the book. I think that’s a great idea. And the image on the bag looks só cute!

Inventive reading light December 30, 2006

Filed under: Handy — kimbooktu @ 8:25 pm

There are more then enough reading lights around, I should think. This one, the Led Ear Lite, is different from the others. Why? You mount it to your ear! It works the same as a Bluetooth headset for your mobile telephone. You turn it on, put it on your ear and it beams a light on your book. Since it is a LED it is supposed to work for 100,000 hours. You can also adjust the angle of the light. I think that is some very inventive thinking of the person who invented it. You can learn more about it here. Or, of course check Ebay first.

Breakfast with book December 30, 2006

Filed under: Furniture, Handy — kimbooktu @ 8:23 pm

You will probably never get breakfast in bed. Most people don’t. But for the slim chance you will, this gadget is something for you! You can not only enjoy your fresh orange juice and your fresh croissant in bed. With this breakfast tray you can also enjoy a book, while sipping the juice and nibbling away on your croissant. Except there is no place for them on this tray, because the book stand takes up all the room.

Anyhow, it comes in the colours cherry and plain. I think it looks awfully nice. If you are one of the lucky ones, you can order the tray here.

Fishy book ends December 30, 2006

Filed under: Furniture — kimbooktu @ 8:16 pm

If I had a category “weird” I would place the following item in there. Since I have not, I have placed it in “miscellaneous”. There are an enormous amount of book ends on the market. Most of them are nothing special, so I won’t list them on this website. Because these are something else, I wanted to share them with you. Fish bowl book ends. No, I am not kidding. They actually exist.

Granted, it might look stylish. I just cannot help but to feel sorry for the fish. But that’s just me. They are available in small and large. Even if I wanted to, I do not have any use for them. My bookshelves are to cramped to fit book ends on them!

Just give me a sign! December 30, 2006

Filed under: Humour, Miscellaneous — kimbooktu @ 8:14 pm

How funny it would be to have one of those on the door of my library. Texsign makes all sorts of signs. They have also produced signs for book lovers. Just go to their website and type “book lover” in the search box. You will find a variety of signs that have to do with books and/or reading.
